Outrageous Bank Charges

I went to cash a check written out to me by a law firm and was told, as a non account holder, I would be charged $5. This bank has 2.3 BILLION IN CASH AND ASSETS!!!! what a rip off!
I will do my banking at Peoples United Bank and Bank of America.
