You are wasting your time dealing with this branch unless you have a significant volume in your account. These folks don't care about your needs, questions, etc. otherwise. Heather Wilson is the biggest offender. I'm seriously considering taking my business to Huntington across the street.
* this reviewer has be with this bank for 1 - 3 years

extremely disenchanted with the refinancing process, after paying fees and asking for another appraisal because they would not validate the one that was done only 2 months prior, there appears to be a sadistic quality in their mortgage dept. at the Cary, NC branch, would love to name the specific two people that are uncaring and enjoy bleeding each cent out of their poor trusting customers.

In November 2010, I called 5/3 about refinancing my mortgage. I was quoted a rate and I asked if there were any points. I was told no. "no points?. "no points." I actually spoke to two separate mortgage originators and was told no both times. When I received the Good Faith Estimte it included one point. I was told this was the condo fee which was disclosed during the application process. However, they never asked if I was a refinancing a condo when I first asked about points. Additionally I was told 1) I don't know how much the condo fee will be 2) I don't even know if they will charge it. Maybe I should have known better but to the every day consumer I think this practice is unfair and deceptive. Subsequently my mortgage originator refused to speak with me and left me in the hands of her administrator. Two regional managers were aware of this but did nothing to remedy the situation which only lead to additional delays because the administrator had to get the answers from. I assume, the originator. This process dragged out for 3 months. They quoted me 3 separate deals during this timeframe. Each time I checked on the status, because no one called me, I expressing concern about the rate that I had locked in. I was repeatedly told "Don't worry about it." Finally, in February, 5/3 approved the mortgage only to call me the next day to inform me the investor would not extend the rate lock any longer and the 4.25% locked in was no longer available. Even then, the regional by the name of Scott wasn't man enough to call me himself. However, he was willing to say "It wasn't all our fault" but provided no details nor did he follow up on information I provided him about the delays. Through this process employees have lied, left out information and did projections on account benefits that conveniently left out associated costs. If a bank were willing to stand by it's commitments they would have volunteered to take the loan in house are the rate promised the customer. They left me hanging and cost me $300 per month plus. I will never do business with Fifth Third again. I was told Fifth Third spent $7000 in rate lock extensions throughout the process. For that investment they ended up losing my Home Equity loan. Any investors should be wary about a business that incurs costs that high and still can't close the business!
This review will be added to every branch in the region since the employees involved cover multiple locations.

The tellers can be nice (although they are required to be nonforgiving), but that does not compensate for their deceptive system. I can admit (just this time) that I should have listened to the warning from my roommate, the senior finance major with a 4.0 who scored in 97% tile in the nation on the Bloomberg exam.

Specifically this branch -
Nothing wrong with The Fifth Third Bank itself. It's the inadequate human
tellers that work there. Constantly I have had errors with simple deposit transactions... completely due to human error! Banked for over 20 years prior w/CitiBank & never encountered a single human banking error.
I'll never deal with the Schaumburg west branch ever again. They either need new management or a complete over-haul of whom ever they have working as tellers!!!!

In mid November my Homeowners Ins agent contacted me, he had changed my carrier. Since the annual payment date was a hand, he asked that I go by my bank, Fifth Third and inform them of the impending change and to request that they not pay the existing carrier. Fifth Third employees assured me that the change would be automatic and that the proper carrier would be paid. Well, not so. However, in their defense, I think they were responding without fully grasping my request.
The existing carrier was paid, a week later. I went back to the bank and spoke to the branch manager. My thought was that we could stop payment, or at least insure we don't make a second payment to the new carrier. What a got was a three minute lecture regarding the problems with my agent, and what I needed to do.
As for as accepting any responsibility, or offering any solution the bank could facilitate, he was oblivious. When he spoke of the mortgage dept. that executed the payment, he referred to them as "they" as if they were a outside entity beyond his reach.
I am baffled, on both encounters, no one picked up the phone and called anyone to obtain assistance. On my first visit, had someone called the mortgage dept and said. "please hold the check" All would be square right now. Had the branch mgr today called and said "Do Not Pay, should a bill come from another carrier" I would be square and secure. No such effort. But I do know everything I and my agent did wrong.

I went into this bank, and I was treated like I was not human. I wanted to cash a check, and due to the facat that the people had no idea what they were doing and or what they were saying, I could not! I was 30 minutes late to work from my lunch break. I do not know why it took as long as it did. There is a gentleman in the bank, who I will not say his name, but he is probably the worst over there. He think he is the boss but in truthfully, he is not! He had to ask his real boss if he could cash this check or not! When the manager came out, I admit I was pretty mad but, she also did not know what she was talking about. I called the place were the check was issued and they knew that this bank would end up not cashing my check. I drove over to the Lima branch and what do you know, I cashed the check as well as talked to the manager over there. This branch must not realize that WORD OF MOUTH is key of making business!
